The Pit RCD encourages the general education of all age groups concerning natural resource issues. By continuing to learn about resource concerns, land managers and landowners are better able to make decisions that have both economic and natural resource benefits. The River Center - The River Center is located in Alturas, CA. and is a project sponsored by the Central Modoc Resource Conservation District in cooperation with the Modoc County Office of Education.

Modoc National Wildlife Refuge - Fed by snowmelt from the Warner Mountains, the Pit River creates an oasis for wildlife in the high desert of northeastern California -- Modoc National Wildlife Refuge. The 7,000 + acre refuge was established in 1961 to manage and protect migratory waterfowl.
